CBYE Volunteering — Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Nutcracker Marketplace
In order to make things more festive and utilize the space that we are renting at Hamilton Place for the 6 performances of the Nutcracker, the Board has decided to offer up space (Tables) to retail vendors. This will be a sort of Nutcracker marketplace.  This may include anyone interested in selling merchandise such as hand crafted jewellery, purses, hand sewing items, giftware, etc. It is a great opportunity to reach many people and children included at holiday time.

Nutcracker Parking During Performances
Parents will NOT be allowed to park their car underground at Hamilton Place at the loading dock at the McNab entrance. Also note: You will get a ticket for parking at the McNab street entrance. This is only for drop off.

Tips: There are many lots at Bay and King, also across from the McNab entrance, Jackson Square, etc. Bring coins.

Nutcracker Security
Only cast members and parent volunteers will be allowed to enter past the security desk at Hamilton Place. YOU NEED A BADGE TO GET IN TO HAMILTON PLACE STARTING PERFORMANCE WEEK.. Your badges must be worn at all times so please ensure your child has it with them.

Nutcracker Costume Fittings
Times for fittings will be posted on your volunteer schedule. We generally need 3 volunteers from 12 noon till about 2pm to help with unpacking the costumes. We need an additional 4 volunteers from 3pm-8:30 to help with costume fittings of all the groups.

We need a portable sewing machine, each year if a volunteer can bring one.

Nutcracker Hair and Makeup
Hair and makeup volunteers will be required to attend an information meeting prior to the performances.

Set Striking
We generally need 10 volunteers for striking and moving the staging equipment and props - let us know if you can help out on the final day of performances in this regard.

The success of The Canadian Ballet Youth Ensemble relies on the generous involvement of those with a true passion for the arts - Volunteers like you!

High school students can take advantage of this opportunity to earn their 40 hours of community service, a requirement which needs to be met to graduate from high school.
