In-School Workshops:
As part of our annual Nutcracker production, free in-school workshops are offered by Jude Johnson, Hamilton's Special Musical Ambassador, to any school that purchases a minimum of 125 tickets to the school matinee performance of The Nutcracker.
The workshops have been aligned with the educational Ontario curriculum, enriching the pleasure and understanding of the live ballet performance through the focus of music and drama. - Teachers/Classroom discussions could also be implemented on how the dance reflects cultural differences expressed by the Cuban ballet’s interpretation of the music
Dance and Drama
- The “Nutcracker” ballet and the “Magic and Music” presentation is an opportunity for all students at all grade levels to experience the powerful elements of both dance and drama by professionals
- the storytelling, through music and movement, is a chance for students and teachers to explore, explain, inquire and identify key elements of these age-old expressions of the human spirit
- students also can learn and identify their own personal feelings and reactions to seeing a world class ballet production
- they will also be able to experience the emotional connections to this art form, and evaluate the production through writing a review or doing an oral presentation to their class
- building a sense of community and tradition, is also achieved by a “school” theater experience traveling outside of the classroom
- it is a “shared” memory for the school
