Cuban School of Ballet - Training

Training

For students, the Cuban School of Ballet can act as their primary school of dance or can be a complement to their ongoing dance training at their current dance studio.  Dance curriculum is in line with curriculum taught at the National Ballet School of Cuba.

Full Time Program

  • 3 classes per week - includes pointe work based on instructor assessment
  • Professional Productions - students will have opportunities to participate in productions with the National Ballet of Cuba.
  • Dance in Havana, Cuba
    As opportunities arise, students will be invited to travel to Havana to perform with the National Ballet of Cuba. Training workshops are also available in the summer.
  • 2 annual student evaluations
  • Lectures & Guest Speakers
    Students are invited to CBYE hosted dance speaker series

Associate Program

  • 1 or 2 regular ballet or specialty classes per week – includes pointe work based on instructor assessment

    OR

  • Private Lesson Package
    Available upon request. Each lesson is 1 hour and 15 min. in length)

Students in the associate program interested in taking part in one of our professional productions need to take part in the regular audition process.

Preparatory ~ 1hr. NEW!
(for ages 6 – 8) An introduction for children to the world of ballet, especially designed to encourage and improve coordination, self control, rhythm, musical ability, posture and discipline in the art of Cuban ballet.

Class Levels
Students are placed into their appropriate level based on instructor assessment.  As students progress during the year, students may be moved to advanced class levels.

Ballet I ~ 1 hr.
Introductory ballet class for dancers new to the art form or with only a few years of experience.  Class focuses on the preparation for advanced technique.

Ballet II ~ 1.5 hr
For the intermediate dancer, this class builds on foundation technique introducing complex combinations.  Pointe work is introduced based on instructor assessment.

Ballet III ~1.25 hr class + 0.5 hr pointe class
Advanced ballet class preparing the dancer for the working world of professional dance. Dedicated pointe work after each class

Repertoire ~ 1.5 hr.
Learn performance techniques and choreography from the greatest ballets. Class includes warm up. Open to dancers in Ballet II & III or intermediate levels.

Conditioning ~ 1hr.
This rigourous fitness class targets dancer flexibility, strength, and endurance. Class includes ballet warm up. Open to dancers in Ballet II & III or intermediate level.

Methodology ~ 1hr. per month
Monthly theory sessions teach students proper written dance analysis and step notation

Adult Ballet ~ 1hr.

The only workout that is an art form at any age.  Open to dancers with all levels of experience.
